Bay of Plenty Sports Awards. And on Friday night there was this:
Which we have no words for really, other than how happy we are and thankful to everyone who has contributed to the club since its inception. The awards were streamed live this year so clubbies went to Good Eastern Taphouse to support the club and our members who were also finalists including: Open Sportswoman of the Year: Robin Goomes Young Sportsman of the Year: Lachie Stevens-McNab Young Sportswoman of the Year: Jenna Hastings
The AGM of 2021 went down! I know, it's an AGM, but it did. Lots of great things to report on, not least 355% growth in members in the last year. Which means there are more of YOU! And that's so good. Thanks to the hard working committee (more on them later too), Gregg and the team the Pig & Whistle for hosting us and everyone that came along to support the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club. We heart you. View the presentation via Facebook here (you'll have to read between the lines!).
We have a new website. Which took a minute but we got there. And just goes to show the depth of the club including the history, events, First Response Unit, rider programmes, sponsors and memberships themselves. You can nowjoin onlineANDdonate onlinewhich just makes sense doesn't it? Big shout out to everyone who played a part in pulling it all together.
Anyway that's what I wanted to share as President but read on as there's HEAPS of other new stuff including events, awards announcements, new committee members and more.

EVENTS JUST BEEN Coz not everything gets cancelled
Low Key Super D - Round 1 Wednesday 27 October Epic start to the Low Key Season with smoking hot results which can be found here. Fresh off his own run, Darren, of Darren Stanley Photography, jumped behind the lense as it was starting to get dark to nab these shots.
Specialized Soil Searching Dig Day Sunday 7 November A whopping 50 people showed up to help out at the Specialized Dig Day. Several days leading up to the dig were spent marking the line which consists of a combination of the old line (where we could find it!) and some new spicier sections. The goal of the day was to clear as much of the line as possible so that we could go back later and add features (drops, jumps, berms etc.). We managed to get two thirds of the trail cleared to an almost rideable standard which exceeded expectations.
The digging was followed by an epic BBQ and drinks thanks to the crew at Specialized who also provided the tools we needed to get the mahi done. Cheers to the Rotorua Trails Trust for assistance (and Kris for the photos).
This cool bunch are our Term 4 squad that are learning all the tricks from newly crowned Crankworx Rotorua DH winner Louis Hamilton! Louis from Tuned Rotorua says:
"My first impressions of the squad were they all looked super nervous to start but after a few minutes of chatting about what we were going to go through they were motivated and ready to go. There are a range of abilities from those that have already had race experience through to those just starting, but everyone was on the same page with what they wanted to get out of the coaching programme. We have been working on one thing each week, so far, they have been explained the break downs of body technique, cornering, off camber and braking. Some detailed skills and some instant improvements". APPLY FOR TERM 1 NOW! 13 - 18 year olds Applications need to be made by the rider/applicant in writing by 8pm the 15th December 2021.
