Descend Rotorua & RMTBC Privateer Fund
Supporting local riders competing in world championships with the proceeds raised from the Dawn2Dusk Event.
Racing at the highest level as a mountain biker is tough - doing it without the support of a factory team - takes real grit and determination.
Being a privateer means going overseas to race the UCI Mountain Bike World Downhill Championships and paying for all costs yourself (organising fundraising, sponsors). It involves planning all of your own travel logistics and getting your own bike race-ready without a team mechanic.
Descend and Rotorua Mountain Bike Club, know just how tough a gig this is, so they have created the Privateer Fund to financially help riders who are selected for UCI Mountain Bike World Downhill Championships or riders that self-fund an overseas trip as a ‘Privateer’ to race at a UCI Mountain Bike World Downhill Championships Series event.
Each year, proceeds raised by the Dawn2Dusk Event go towards the Privateer Fund. Candidates can receive funding multiple times annually with no limitations set.
The Dusk2Dawn event does not offer any prizes to those who ride in it, as the club would rather give 100% of the profits to the rider/riders who are the beneficiaries of this fund.
This event is the community and club’s way of supporting these riders from our own backyard.
